Clan History A black and white elder lounged in the shade of a maple tree when three small kits bounded up to him. "Serpentfang, Serpentfang tell us a story!" They chanted, bouncing on their little toes. The elder pushed himself to his paws and gave a little yawn. He smiled, enjoying the company, and crouched close to the kits. "Alright" He purred roughly. "I'll tell you a story, but not just any story, a true one." The kits got themselves comfortable as Serpentfang began his story.
Many many seasons ago, when my elder's elder's elders were kits. The clans lived in a different place. With different cats and different kinds of prey and a totally different setting. There they lived happily with five other clans. Together there were nine clans, the clans that you and I live in today: StormClan, MarshClan, IceClan, and IvyClan. And five other clans: ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and SkyClan. They all lived together in peace and twolegs nor any other species bothered them. That is until the day that a single tribe of twolegs moved in. They brought dogs an horses and foxes and badgers and disease to all the clans. It was a great time of suffering and terror for the warrior cats of that generation. After abut four seasons of putting up with this the clans discussed the problem among each other at a gathering. They decided that some of the clans had to leave, for if there were less clan territory, then the twolegs and other beings would pay less attention to them. Now there was much fuss over which clans were going to leave. No clan wanted to see their cats go astray from being warriors. This argument went on until the next morning when, of course, the truce had ended. A terrible war broke out among all nine clans. Can you imagine that? Every cat of every clan had joined this battle to protect their clan. The battle raged on until the next day. Many cats died. The five other clans made an alliance against our clans and chased them away. But they were not ready to give up being clans yet. They traveled farther than any cat had ever gone before. For seasons they marched, trying to find a good place to suit their unique skills. Soon, though, the cats gave up. They gave in to being loners and kittypets and stopped their journey right in a large suburban area. In just one generation (their children) though. The cats met back up and found that just on the other side of those suburbs, there was a warrior cat haven. Marshes for MarshClan, Hilly woodlands for StormClan, a stream-filled forest for IvyClan, and a mountain range for IceClan. Serpentfang stopped speaking, the last of the kits had closed his heavy eyelids and now all three were lost in sleep. The black and white elder smiled and fell asleep himself.
